Queensland Aesthetic Nurses United

Upholding professional excellence, ethical practice, and peer support within the aesthetic field

Queensland Aesthetic Nurses United (QANU) is a collective of Registered Nurses in aesthetic medicine, united by a shared vision to uphold professional excellence, ethical practice, and peer support within the aesthetic field. As a growing force in Queensland, we stand together to protect and elevate the role of RNs, irrespective of commercial or competitive interests.

Our Purpose

We are committed to advancing the professional standards of aesthetic nursing by advocating for:

  • Clear, consistent regulation and enforcement across jurisdictions.

  • Recognition of the RN’s role as essential to multidisciplinary aesthetic care.

  • A practical, nurse-led framework for education, credentialing, and indemnity.

  • Evidence-based practice rooted in safety, accountability, and patient trust.

Our Advocacy Goals

As an urgent priority, we are mobilising to:

  • Petition and lobby key industry stakeholders to adopt inclusive and safe models that preserve the viability of nurse-led practices.

  • Promote a collaborative solution that ensures public safety without dismantling the successful, compliant RN-led models that currently exist.

  • Call for fair, practical enforcement of Schedule 4 (S4) medication regulations in Queensland, consistent with approaches in other states like Victoria.

  • Ensure robust industry consultation in policy formation to reflect the realities of modern practice and care delivery.

Our Vision

We believe the future of aesthetic medicine must be led by skilled and accountable professionals - not by unchecked commercial drivers. Registered Nurses are essential in ensuring continuity of care, patient education, and clinical safety. Our collaborative model of care, under appropriate medical oversight, represents a sustainable, patient-focused future for aesthetic medicine.

Why This Matters

The current interpretation of Queensland’s Medicines and Poisons Act threatens to dismantle viable, nurse-led models of care. Without timely and measured intervention:

  • Patient access to trusted practitioners will be disrupted.

  • Wait times and treatment costs are likely to increase.

  • Women-led businesses - many of them regional and independently run - face closure.

  • The continuity of safe, accountable, and accessible care will be at risk.

We urge policymakers, regulators, and industry leaders to recognise both the socioeconomic impact and clinical implications of these changes. QANU is committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to shape a fair, scalable, and sustainable future for aesthetic medicine in Australia.
